Tijuana 3 & Year's End

Another year complete! You know what that means:

Putting those summaries together is always fun. This year I drew lots of rainbow dinosaurs and found out that people like when I draw rainbow dinosaurs. Win-win!

Freelance work put me behind schedule on drawing my webcomic, Taking Back Toku. That's alright. I'm proud of what I was able to accomplish this year alone.

A goal that I did manage to meet, however, was completing my third Tijuana journal comic.

A fourth short story is certainly on schedule for next year. After that, I hope to compile everything into a single volume. I've really enjoyed this project over the years.

More is ahead in 2020. It's been a busy year.
  • My graphic novel was released
  • I went to the ALA Conference and spoke on a discussion panel
  • I attended C2E2 for the first time as a guest speaker
  • I launched my Patreon and produced 65+ pages of my new webcomic
It's all been great and I'm looking forward to what's next. Here's a final 2019 sketch dump:

Godzilla & Gamera Anniversaries

It's funny to me that both Godzilla and Gamera were released the same month (1954 & 1965 respectively). This November it was nice to get back into drawing some neon monsters and portraits.

This month we also welcomed a new puppy into the house! Welcome to the family, Iggy!

My webcomic Taking Back Toku is right on track. I wish I had completed a few more pages by this point, but freelance work has me pretty busy. Can't complain about that!

And my Mexico comic is continuing along smoothly. I have 15/20 pages done. Only a few more to go!

One month left in 2009. Let's go!

Inktober 2019

This marks my 5th Inktober! Excluding 2017, I've participated since 2014. You can view my previous entries here:

2019 was the first time I decided to follow the official Inktober prompt list.

Admittedly, I was feeling a little overwhelmed with other projects in progress, so I opted to draw at least 15 of my favorite prompts. My theme (by popular demand) was Godzilla, of course. Here's what followed:

Ring

Bait

Enchanted

Swing

Pattern

Ash

Wild

Misfit

Sling

Treasure

Chasing Rockstars

If you follow me on social media, you know how much I love the glam rock group, The Struts.

This month I snagged some Meet & Greet tickets and I was able to deliver some fan art in person. 11-year-old deviant art me would be so proud.

Luke recognized my illustrations (probably due to all my pestering on Instagram). It was a special moment and I'll remember it forever.

The story continues! A member of a Facebook Struts fan page informed everyone that her husband had passed away. I was very moved by her story, so I wanted to include Tom in my tribute illustrations:

At the concert I went to, Luke dedicated a song to Tom. And someone held up my illustration on their phone during it all!
I'm glad I can connect with others in a meaningful way.

In other news, I'm still plugging away at the 3rd installment of my Tijuana comic.

And I just posted the 30th page of my webcomic Taking Back Toku! Please give it a read.

And here's the rest of this month's drawings:

Inktober starts in a few days. We'll see what I have in store!
