KaiJune

KaiJuly is a staple of my yearly drawing challenges, but this is the first time I've participated in KaiJune.

In anticipation of my new webcomic, Taking Back Tokusatsu I wanted to draw one of my kaiju characters interacting with classic monsters. This turned into a fun project! The illustrations might go well together as a tiny children's book in the future.

I also couldn't resist hopping in to a #drawthisinyourstyle prompt from Kat Hudson!

June was also notable as I was invited to speak at the American Libraries Association Annual Conference!

I had the privilege of appearing on a discussion panel about Coming-of-Age stories and how they are well-suited as graphic novels. My debut graphic novel, Minus is out in the world! I feel grateful to everyone who helped make this happen.

Cherry Capital Comic Con

This year I had the privilege of participating in Cherry Capital Comic Con in Traverse City, MI. This was a fun weekend to be a comic creator! Between the convention, the Drink 'n' Draw, and the charity auction, I had a blast.

My next event is the American Library Association Annual Conference in June. I'm excited to speak about my graphic novel, Minus! I can't believe it comes out in just a few more weeks!

One year ago I finished working on the book. This is a milestone for me-- I hope I can share many more stories in my lifetime.

In other news, my dreams came true by watching Godzilla King of the Monsters this month. What an incredible film! The kaiju community is alive and well. Only one more month until I meet up with my fellow lizards at G-Fest.

I am also only one month away from sharing my new webcomic Taking Back Toku with everyone. Patreon has been a great way to make this possible, so I'm very grateful to my supporters.

Kaiju Kids at Summer Camp

I've mused with a revisiting a children's book concept from college. It might be fun to further develop this in the future and make it about two kaiju girls instead.

That being said, I took to Instagram and asked my followers: What would two kaiju girls do at summer camp?

Make friendship bracelets, have a seance, archery, city stomping, etc...

This was a fun exercise to draw everyone's answers. I hope to do this again sometime!

And lastly, I'm still chugging away at my upcoming webcomic, Taking Back Toku. I'm entering the 30-page mark, although I wish I had gotten further this month. My laptop charger died and I lost some comics time because of it. Perhaps I shouldn't be so reliant on my digital art setup! It definitely has its drawbacks.

I am happy to announce that I will make an appearance at the ALA Annual in DC! I can't wait to share more about my graphic novel, Minus!
