The Children's Critique

We've roughed out our stories for Children's Book class, so we decided to do a test-run with our target audience.

Special thanks to East Broad Street Elementary for having all of us swing by! This was tons of fun---the feedback was both hilarious and helpful.

Sitting down with kids and having them assess our stories strictly by the pictures was very eye-opening. In my story, the children easily identified my main characters, but didn't recognize the story location. Most of the kids said my story took place at school and not at summer camp. Oops.

Some other kids thought my story was about "the fat pony girl" instead of a rhino. They recognized the giraffe though!

I think we all have some adjustments to make based on these critiques. We'll make sure to let our new friends see the final products!

This class rocks my world. If you're looking for a SCAD sequential art elective, take children's book.

Drumroll, Please

Sketchbook class is official over. So lucky to have taken the class this quarter. It was wonderful to get outside and work on my on-site drawing. Over ninety pages in counting!

My last pages were drawn from museum exhibits at the Savannah Jepson Museum and also from the 15th story of the Hilton DeSoto hotel downtown.

A lovely way to end another school year. I plan on continuing my observational drawing this summer for sure!

Excuses to Draw Rhinos

Just completed my last out-of-class sketchbook assignment. The subject matter was of our choosing, and since I had so much fun drawing elephants, I decided to spend the week sketching up some rhinos.

Oh. And we also drew exhibits at the SCAD museum and went to a coffee shop to sketch during class hours. Have I mentioned I love this class?

Architecture Color Studies

It's good to step outside of a comfort zone every now and then. These past weeks were spent studying architecture and exploring color applications--- I like to paint, but buildings are not my forte.
